Creative Ideas: Embroidering 3-D Cat Patch

Artist: Connie Larsen
I have a passion for embroidery and always search for new ideas to create something unique and fun. This time, I decided to make a mini purse with a unique design inspired by a three-color cat painting by Connie Larsen, as I love cat art!

I purchased a plain denim mini pouch from Ali Express and glass eyes in advance to add some unusual elements to my embroidery.

To start the process, I traced the design on tracing paper and outlined the main areas of color and the direction of the embroidery stitches.

Then, I divided the design into layers, cut the shapes out, and drew them on a piece of felt

I cut the felt shapes and stitched them together

Next, I stitched the felt pieces and attached them to an "iron-on" embroidery stabilizer before attaching the finished form to the base fabric.

I then stretched the fabric with the design on a small embroidery hoop and stitched it with a satin stitch, following the color and directing guide I had created earlier. The embroidery is quite dense, as I added at least 3 layers everywhere, starting with medium tones, and then gradually adding darks and lights.

Finally, I cut the finished embroidery and inserted and glued the eyes, leaving about 5mm around the embroidered edge so it does not unravel. Before sewing it onto my denim pouch with some vintage lace, I soaked the lace and the embroidery with Paverpol textile hardener to improve their endurance.

I am thrilled with the result! It took me about a week to make this unique pouch, and I use it every day.

Here is a short video I made about the process, enjoy!

I love to share my experience, so if you have any questions, leave them in the comments!
